Taxing per mile on roads.

You are being told that we need new ways to tax people that will also track when and where you use the roads.  These involve systems to record your license plates, or installing a GPS receiver into your car to track you where ever you go.

All of this is just an excuse to try and get ever more intrusive government into our lives.

There is no need to tax per mile on roads.  We already have an amazing way that not only taxes per mile, but has less tax on smaller, fuel efficient cars.  It already even rewards car pools.  The existing way keeps intrusive government out of our lives.

It is called a fuel tax.

That is right.  Just by putting a tax on fuel you reward all the good behaviors and punish all the bad behaviors.  All without any government intrusion into our private lives.

What we need to do is to not put fuel taxes into the general fund.  Instead we need a completely different independent agency, similar to the post office, that is solely funded by gas taxes, and they cannot spend that money on anything other than roads and bridges.  Conversely, no moneys should be given to this agency other than tax money raised from fuel sales.
